Artist's Light 18X14, oil on linen

National Arts Program Show

Song for Guitar, 12X12, oil on linen

Hello, all:

These two paintings will be included in a show at the Mexican American Cultural Center in Austin between December 12th and January 16, 2010.

The MACC is at 300 River Street: go south on Red River past Cesar Chavez, left on Davis, right on Rainey. The MACC is thebig white building on your right.

The gallery is upstairs; admission is free. Hours are Tuesday-Thursday 10-6, Friday 10-5, and Saturday 12-5. There will be a reception January 15 from 6 to 8. I hope some of you can drop by when you're downtown.

Chrysanthemum Variations

This week I picked some of the chrysanthemums that have been blooming on our deck. I've done two little paintings of them so far; here is the first one, in stages:

First, a photo of the setup

Stage One: rough in the darks, leaving space for the lights

Stage Two: add color and the basic shapes--beginning to develop a focus

Stage Three: getting more specific; I think it's about done.

One more dot and it's finished.

I think I even managed to spell chrysanthemum right three--no, four--times.

New website

Hello again! I've spent the last few weeks creating a website. I'm still working on it--but you can take a look at www.nancygrobe.com.

I've been doing a few small paintings outdoors; I should have pictures of them soon, as well as a series of pictures of a portrait in progress. Until then, I hope you'll enjoy the website.

And now, a few head studies:

Dave

Dave Larson and his wife, the artist Eve Larson, are good friends of mine. Dave is an athlete, a dancer, and the best-known artists' model in Austin.

Amy

Vicky Smiling

Not many people can hold a smile through a whole portrait sitting, but she did.

On the Edge

More cliffs. . .

On Barton Creek

This was painted a couple of years ago,

when we had a wet spring.

Old Bus

This old school bus belongs to another painter friend,

Pepe Plowman. She drove it from Philadelphia to New Mexico

and then to Texas. It's now retired and lives in her yard in Cedar Park.

Autumn Vineyard

This vineyard is next to Lake Travis. I hope there's

enough water in the lake this year to keep it alive.

Along the Cliffs

These cliffs are along the Colorado River at Redbud Isles.

I've shown a few of my paintings of people. (I've only just figured out how to add text.)

Now here are some small landscapes (more to come).

Mother and Child (detail)

Mother and Child

I photographed this mother and child in the park.
They were looking at the koi in the fishpond.

Julian at 14

Julian is the son of another artist who came to the group.
I'm sure he is a lot more grown up now.

Amy in Orange

Amy is the daughter of a friend and fellow painter, Ellen Willis.
You'll be seeing more pictures of her.

In Tune

This is Nathan. I'll have more pictures of him with his viola.

Artist's Light

First I'd like to show some of my paintings of people.
This one's from our Friday group, when we get together to paint.
